Sacred Heart is a beautiful church with a traditional cross-shaped design that combines both Roman and Byzantine styles. One of the first things you notice is the 119-foot campanile, which rises high above the church and naturally draws your eyes toward heaven.
At the top of the tower is a unique bell-shaped cupola covered in colorful tiles. The tiles create a repeating “V” pattern, similar to the famous “V for Victory” symbol used during World War II.
The design has a deeper meaning as well. The “V” represents Christ’s victory over sin and death, which makes the church especially meaningful for a Catholic wedding. It is not only a beautiful place to get married, but also a building filled with reminders of the faith and the sacrament being celebrated.
When Sacred Heart was first dedicated, only three major stained-glass windows had been completed: the large rose window above the main entrance and the two windows in the transepts.
The rose window is called “The Window of Creation.” Its eight petal-shaped sections feature angels, while the smaller windows around them tell the story of the creation of the world.
With its deep blue glass mixed with bright red and yellow, the rose window has the same beautiful feel as the stained glass found in many French Gothic cathedrals.
I love photographing Catholic weddings because there is something truly special about the sacredness of the Mass and the commitment being made. As a Catholic myself, I understand how meaningful it is to see a couple begin their marriage through the Sacrament of Matrimony. I especially love capturing the quiet and reverent parts of the Mass, including the Eucharistic offering and the prayers shared by the couple and their loved ones. There is something beautiful about making that commitment in front of family, friends, and the wider Catholic community. Beyond the meaning of the ceremony, Catholic churches provide some of the most beautiful and timeless settings for weddings. For me, photographing a Catholic wedding is about preserving not only beautiful images, but also the faith, love, and commitment behind the day.
If you are planning a Catholic wedding at Sacred Heart, I would love the opportunity to be there to document it. From the beauty of the church itself to the sacredness of the Mass and the commitment you are making to one another, there is so much to preserve and remember. As a Catholic and a wedding photographer, I care deeply about creating images that capture not only how your wedding looked, but also how meaningful it felt. Sacred Heart is a beautiful place to begin a marriage, and I would be honored to help you remember the moments of your wedding day for years to come.
